The Story Behind Teclaz: What It Means and How to Say It

We get asked two questions about Teclaz all the time, “How do you pronounce Teclaz?” and “What does it mean?”

You pronounce Teclaz just like the words Tech-less. The word Teclaz is a completely new word we created by blending faith, history, grit, resilience, and our core product focus. We drew inspiration from St. Thecla, the first Christian female martyr. Thecla combines the words theos and kleos, which translates to the glory of God. The ancient Acts of Paul and Thecla details how she survived impossible trials including fire and wild beasts. We loved her story of surviving the impossible because it captures the deep resilience and grit that every startup needs.

St. Thecla’s story continues with more interesting twists since in some Spanish-speaking countries she is referred to as the patron saint of computers because tecla is the Spanish word for a key on a computer keyboard and z is our shorthand for insights, translating to key insights.

Tec is also a nod to our belief in technology's power to transform lives, and a proud tribute to Georgia Tech, where our startup journey began through the CREATE-X Launch program. Every name has a meaning and now y’all know the meaning of Teclaz and how to say it (Tech-less)!
