AI is everywhere, but who is actually paying to use it? 7 in 10 businesses across the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia now use AI regularly, and daily use has more than doubled in some markets, according to the Intuit 2026 AI Impact Report. The data shows a clear profile of who buys AI technology. The top spenders are newer businesses, growth-focused leaders, and digital-first industries. Growth-focused businesses are more than twice as likely to pay for dedicated AI tools as those focused on stability. Tech, information, and finance and insurance companies are investing at the highest rates. What makes these spenders stand out is their long-term commitment. Intuit’s report highlights 86% of businesses that paid for AI tools kept paying for them the next year. Once a business sees how much time and money an AI tool saves them, they do not want to go back to the old way of doing things.
The SMB space is investing in AI tools to buy their time back. Businesses are investing in tools that handle time-consuming busywork like automated customer service, advanced marketing, and complex administrative data. While the biggest hurdle for non-users isn't the cost, it is often a fear of security risks or not knowing how to start.
